dMAT (Digital Master Test) is a computer-based academic aptitude test developed by g.a.s.t., centrally evaluated by the TestDaF Institute in Bochum, with backing from DAAD. It's a new requirement folded into APS documentation for Indian Master's applicants to Germany.
Indian Master's applicants (not Bachelor's or PhD) in Engineering/CS, Commerce/Accounting/Finance/Economics, or Business/Management, applying for Summer Semester 2027 or later, who register for APS on or after 29 June 2026.
Four groups: Bachelor's and PhD applicants, students in confirmed exchange/double-degree programs, applicants whose undergraduate field falls outside the three affected areas, and anyone who completed APS registration or shipped documents before 29 June 2026.
No. TestAS is a separate test for Bachelor's applicants — dMAT is Master's-only. It's also unrelated to the Madhya Pradesh DMAT medical entrance exam or demat trading accounts, despite the similar name.
A Core Module (Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations, Latin Squares — 20 questions each) plus a 90-minute General Academic Module, run back-to-back with a 30-minute break. Total time is about 3.5 hours, computer-based, in English, at a licensed Indian test centre. All questions are single-choice with no negative marking.
Raw correct answers convert to a scaled score from 0 to 200, with a mean of 100, plus a percentile rank. Since this is India's first-ever cohort (exam date 26 September 2026), no official minimum or 'good score' has been published yet.
Right now, only RWTH Aachen (MSc Battery Science & Technology) and Göttingen (MSc Data Science) formally weigh it in admissions. Every other eligible program still requires it as part of your APS file, and we expect more universities to start score-weighting it as results data builds up.
