The dMAT 2027 exam dates have officially been announced. Registration started on 28 October 2026, and eligible candidates can now register for either the January or March examination session.

The Digital Master's Test (dMAT) is administered by g.a.s.t. (Gesellschaft für Akademische Studienvorbereitung und Testentwicklung). It has been introduced as an additional component of the APS documentation process for selected Indian students applying for Master's programmes in Germany.

Candidates should carefully check the examination schedule and select a test date that aligns with their university application and APS documentation timelines.

Who Should Take the dMAT Test?

The dMAT is intended for selected Indian students applying for Master's programmes in Germany. It is an additional academic aptitude assessment introduced as part of the APS documentation process.

However, not every student applying to Germany needs to take the examination.

The requirement depends on the applicant's previous academic qualification, field of study, intended intake and applicable transitional exemptions.

Who Is Required to Take the dMAT?

Under the updated APS procedure, the dMAT requirement applies to selected groups of Indian Master's applicants whose previous degrees fall within the notified fields of study.

The updated list includes academic areas such as:

  • Engineering, including B.Tech and B.Eng degrees.

  • Commerce and Economics.

  • Business and Management.

Applicants should consult the latest APS India dMAT eligibility information to confirm whether their specific degree and programme fall within the affected categories.

Who Is Exempted from the dMAT Requirement?

The following categories are generally not required to take the dMAT under the current procedure:

  • Students applying for Bachelor's programmes in Germany.

  • PhD applicants.

  • Applicants whose previous degree does not fall within the selected fields.

  • Applicants participating in officially confirmed exchange, double-degree or university partnership programmes.

  • Applicants who qualify for the applicable transitional exemption.

In particular, candidates who completed their APS online registration before 29 June 2026, or shipped their complete APS application documents before that date, may qualify for an exemption under the existing transitional rules.

Applicants who have already received an APS certificate do not need to take the dMAT retrospectively for that completed APS procedure.

Is dMAT Mandatory for Summer Semester 2027?

For applicants belonging to the affected academic groups, the dMAT is a required part of the APS documentation for applications relating to the Summer Semester 2027 intake and subsequent intakes, unless an exemption applies.

Students should remember that the dMAT does not replace APS document verification, university recognition requirements or the admission decision of a German university.

Candidates can also submit their other APS application documents before receiving their dMAT certificate, where the applicable APS procedure permits it. However, APS India can issue the APS certificate only after the required dMAT certificate has been submitted and checked.

Before registering: Verify your previous degree's recognition status through the Anabin database and check the latest APS India eligibility information.
